Prosperi TV
A home-made media server — films, series and music streamed to the TV and the phone, even away from home.
The problem
Programs for your own media library are convenient but heavy, closed, or paywalled for the features that matter. The idea was a tailor-made home service: light on a mini PC, with an app for the TV and the phone.
The solution
- A server on a mini PC that organises the library, fetches posters and descriptions and renames files tidily.
- Apps for Android and Smart TV, with “continue watching” and a music player.
- Automatic overnight conversion of videos into formats every device can play, never deleting the original and never while someone is watching.
- Access from outside the home at a fixed address, with users and invitations.
- A desktop program to manage everything.
How it’s built
- Streaming with range requests (HTTP Range), so you can skip back and forth without downloading the whole video.
- An FFmpeg conversion queue with Intel hardware acceleration, a time window and an estimate of the remaining time.
- The server runs as a Windows service and is reachable from outside through a Cloudflare tunnel, without opening ports on the router.
